A spin around the Island of Kauai and then on to the Big Island of Hawaii.

Starting the BBQ outside the cabin at Koke'e State Park, Kauai.
A friend of Curtis lives in Kauai and was nice enough to let us stay at their cabin in Koke'e State Park at Waimea Canyon. It was very peaceful and quiet. There are many hiking trials here and the elevation is a little higher so it's cool in the evening and early morning. The native birds love this place.

City of Refuge
We drove south of Kailua Kona to South Kona district. And to Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park or City of Refuge.
Refuge wall - 17 feet thick
In old Hawaii if you broke the sacred laws, the kapu, and the only punishment was death.  Your only chance of survival is to elude your pursuers and reach the Pu'uhonua, a place of refuge.  The Pu'uhonua protected the kapu breaker, defeated warriors, as well as civilians during the time of battle.  No harm could come to those who reached the boundaries of the place of refuge. There is a huge thick wall around the refuge area right on the water.
